The Alteration of Judicial Titles (Registrar in Bankruptcy of the High Court) Order 2018 comes into force on 26 February 2018. The SI provides that the name of the office of “Registrar in Bankruptcy of the High Court” is changed to “Insolvency and Companies Court Judge”. Consequential amendments to existing legislation is made in the SI. The explanatory memorandum provides that the purpose of the name change is to provide judicial titles which better reflect what the current registrars in bankruptcy do, provide clarity to court users and to bring the titles of these judicial offices in line with the name of the Bankruptcy and Companies Courts in which these judges sit.
A letter from Chief Registrar Briggs in furtherance of the changes can be found here. The letter further states that the introduction of the 2018 Insolvency Practice Direction is imminent and will further expand the insolvency jurisdiction of the Insolvency and Companies Court Judges.
